Breast Cancer Awareness Month

It was 9:20 pm in the evening when the phone rang.

My husband answered, "It's your doctor."

Just know that when your doctor calls you late in the evening, it’s typically not great news.

"Natalie, your results are in, and you have cancer. It is triple positive, and I want you to meet with an oncologist as soon as possible."

The table was sturdy and the chair steady as she went through a lot of information that I was writing down. I had no idea what the hell she was talking about. It was a whole new world of vocabulary, an entirely new world of doctors, of being out of control and pushed around. I knew I had to reach for myself, my values, my truth, or I would become re-defined by an illness.

Thank goodness, I had found the lump early.

It was a miracle.

(Excerpt from her upcoming book Hello Anxiety by Natalie Kohlhaas)

In 2019 I was diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer and underwent six rounds of chemotherapy, a lumpectomy, radiation treatment and reconstructive surgery. As some of you know, I have resolved to continue keeping cancer cell damage away from my body.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I was blessed to have found the lump on my own and early. So, if you have never done a self exam PLEASE do so this month.
