Understanding 504 Plans for ADHD: What Every Parent and Educator Should Know

When it comes to managing ADHD in the school environment, parents and educators are often in search of accommodations that will support a child's learning needs. One crucial tool available is the 504 Plan, which can play a significant role in providing the necessary support for students with ADHD.

A 504 Plan is named after Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which is a civil rights law designed to prevent discrimination against individuals with disabilities. This plan ensures that students with disabilities receive the necessary accommodations to help them succeed academically. Some may include extra time on tests, preferential seating, frequent breaks, or the use of organizational aids. These adjustments are tailored to the individual needs of the student to ensure they can perform at their best.

To qualify for a 504 Plan, a student must demonstrate that ADHD impairs their ability to perform school and life activities, including learning. This generally requires documentation from medical or psychological professionals. It is also important to have the medical and evaluations that highlight the student's ADHD and its impact on their learning.

Here at Serenity Tree, we work closely with you to discuss your student’s needs and potential accommodations. We can guide you to request adjustments if your needs aren't being met for your student. We offer testing and evaluations for your child to understand their needs better, and to help them reach their full potential. Each assessment also includes a comprehensive report for your own viewing in order to better support your child and ensure they receive the accommodations they deserve.

Reach out today to schedule your ADHD assessment so your child can succeed.
